Following close monitoring and based on precise intelligence information, forces of the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism carried out a special operation in which they successfully arrested wanted terrorist Qusai Mohammed Shukr Mahmoud, born in 1981 and a resident of Baghdad, who had a previous record of affiliation with and work for the terrorist organization ISIS.
According to his confession, in 2014 he joined ISIS and initially took part in activities related to mosques and religious outreach. He also admitted that he pledged allegiance to the organization through a person known as Abu Ayyub, and remained active in this field for approximately seven to eight months.
He was later provided with a weapon and assigned to guard duties. He also received a monthly allowance of 180,000 Iraqi dinars.
Following the collapse of the organization, he fled toward the Kurdistan Region and settled within the boundaries of Sulaymaniyah Governorate. He has now been handed over to the competent legal authorities to face prosecution and punishment in accordance with the law.
